The college student who lost her voice for almost four months
Another case of aphonia that I recall was a young college student who came to the office during the winter break. She reported that she had lost her voice in September and came to me in December, still voiceless and having a difficult time at college, unable to do any oral presentations and doing poorly with her course work because of her voice. There was also tension in her family that made matters worse. After about 5 sessions, she started to recover her voice -- and just before the new year, she started speaking clearly again. She went back for the new semester fully recovered from her aphonia.
