Other cases in which I had great success were the cases of aphonia, or loss of voice. The first case involved a professor of law at the nearby university. She came to see after toe surgery which was not getting any better. Apparently she had received physical therapy in a different facility with no improvement. She also told me of a problem she had with her voice. She communicated that she had been unable to speak normally for quite a while. I suggested acupuncture as a treatment, but she said that she had tried acupuncture in a different location without success.
Whenever I encounter a doubter and unlikely to comply with any recommendations, I don’t insist, so I proceeded to continue to treat just the little toe. While I was treating her toe, the patient whispered: “My toe is feeling better!” At that point, she was willing to let me try to treat her throat. So I gave her a very simple treatment of acupuncture only 4 points. I remembered that a master once said that the best acupuncturist sometimes can cure the disease with only one point or needle, I don’t want to call them needles because they are just hair like filaments, they are sterile and the depth I use is very superficial only a few millimeters into the skin… Going back to my story... I kept the filaments (tiny needles) only for 15 minutes and to her surprise and I admit my surprise, her voice returned while she was still lying on the table. She promised she would write about this experience. I guess that once we feel better, sometimes we forget.
