I’ve seen Ms. W on and off for the past three years. She endured cervical pain and wrist pain, among other ailments, but this time she returned to our facility because of repetitive injury – in this case, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow in the right arm. During our treatments, she mentioned that she has been experiencing severe fatigue and that she wakes up several times in the middle of the night with a sensation of choking due to obstruction of the airway passages. She described congestion of the nose and throat upon waking up in the morning, with increased phlegm and the need to clear her nose and throat in the morning.
This sounded to me like a case of sleep apnea caused by obstruction of the airway passages, so she decided to receive acupuncture for this problem since this problem was causing great discomfort in her life. The treatment I selected was to eliminate the phlegm, open up the airway passages and tonify the affected channels, balance the body’s general constitution and calm the mind. During this treatment, Ms. W started to report improvement in her breathing, opening of the airway passages, and renewed energy. She also reported great improvement with her headaches. She did very well and she has made a few more appointments for follow-up.
